Flippant Remarks about “angry women penalized” in the workplace…
The Reuters article “Angry men get ahead while angry women penalized: study” is more old news for the next generation of young professional people. Here’s an excerpt:
“Participants rated the angry female CEO as significantly less competent than all of the other targets, including even the angry female trainee,” Brescoll wrote. She said they viewed angry females as significantly more “out of control.”
That impacted salaries. Unemotional women were assigned on average $55,384 compared to $32,902 for the angry ones. Male executive candidates were assigned more than trainees, regardless of anger, with an average $73,643.
Firstly, here in the rasx() context, every ‘official’ study about women has a correlation with males “of color”—especially Black men. So when I read about social (not biological) studies of women, I immediately apply it to Black men and see does it agree with my observations. Then I push the boundary into speculative assertions that are continually evaluated—which is another way of saying I don’t talk just to hear myself speak.
So here are the correlations:
- Black men that are perceived as angry in the workplace are also seen as out of control. The white logic works like this:
“The angry black guy has right to be angry about stuff that happened to him a long time ago. I know I would be. However, what happened to him a long time ago is irrelevant to what is happening right now and we can’t afford to indulge him and his feelings. This is a business. This is not a day care center.” When you stomach that little bit of whiteness then nibble on this one, “It is better that black guys should be ignorant of their past. I can’t imagine how they can function day to day knowing every historical detail about what this country did to them. Since I know I would not be able to function mentally with such knowledge certainly he can’t.” Do note that these words are not quoting ‘real’ white people so you are going to have to trust my “mental” facility here… What? You can’t? What a surprise… - Black anger has an impact on salaries. You have to realize how most properly assimilated people will do anything to avoid the perception that they are stupid. There is nothing more “stupid” than being a so-called ‘white man’ deferring to the “whimsical” and “out of control” anger of a Black man. Any police officer and Hollywood director (regardless of color) will tell you (in so many different words) that it is better to shoot and kill a Black man rather than deal with the depths of his rage let alone his accurate, precise indignation. You see how sick a ‘real’ American is? Killing Black men makes you look smarter! And you do not have to shoot a gun to kill a Black man—you can simply prevent him from earning enough money to slowly kill him. The slow speed of his pathetic, certain death and his deterioration into oblivion is made to look like smug folk wisdom instead of a nation of millions holding us back. Ah, well… you see… that’s what happens to them…
- Black anger is alone. From the ‘official’ women’s study, “Participants rated the angry female CEO as significantly less competent than all of the other targets, including even the angry female trainee.” This means that when you express what is perceived as anger, you will be isolated—even by other angry Black men. I can’t speak for all forms of so-called Black anger. The Black anger I’m talking about starts with the Messiah and the money changers. Other ‘black anger’ might be about not winning a Grammy. Who gives a fuck about a goddamn Grammy?
So to extrapolate with speculation, my habit lately has been to invoke the character of Itzhak Stern, played by Ben Kingsley in Schindler’s List. Watch and learn how Itzhak Stern comports himself in the presence of a cold, stone Nazi. No matter how “cool” and “nice” Oskar Schindler is, we must never forget that he is a Nazi. And while Itzhak Stern is seeing his people being straight up murdered in front him, he has to be polite, graceful and almost erudite in the face of savages. In the patriarchal context, his behavior is quite “feminine”—remember Anthony Blanche? In the Spielberg movie, we easily assume that this character is surviving a temporary situation. The reason why I invoke this character is to suggest that this character is optimized for peacetime operations as well. This character represents a permanent prison of survival for obsequious Negroes all over the imperial world. So you better start raising your colored children, male and female, to act like this man and take steps to limit their imagination to aspire to be nothing else but this man, a Nazi sidekick in a never-ending “buddy” movie.
Itzhak is the core colored character that makes the money in the game. And it is easier to play this character out of Machiavellian ignorance than out of accurate, detailed, historiographic knowledge. There are stone, cold rappers making money using a variation of this character to get over. When Jay-Z very quickly refers to himself as Rick Rubin’s “boy” and, during interviews, keeps an expression on his face that resembles childlike bewilderment, he is being some form of the Itzhak Stern character—and handling his “99 problems” with traditional American values. There are parents “of color” who are “protecting” their children with ignorance for the sake of some kind of survival—so the wealthy African immigrant living in the American suburb is proud to see their children standing in line waiting for the next Harry Potter book.
So the burgeoning professional man “of color” and his professional female counterpart apparently need to cultivate a consciousness of strategic obsequiousness and use wiles to craftily get their way. In the mean time, a young, self-described “white guy” has the option to be angry and direct to rise through the ranks. His anger surely comes from heroic passion that is deeply and auto-magically respected by other self-described white men—and too many women raised on a healthy diet of Hollywood films.
My anger? Well, it’s “out of control”—right?
